solo T4 Test

Summary

Thyroxin (T4) is formed in thyroid and released into bloodstream, passing a complex regulating mechanism. Thyroxin is bound to several carrier proteins such as albumin, pre-albumin and other specific binding proteins. Thyroid diseases with abnormal hormone concentrations mainly occur at animals with an higher age. Increased respectively decreased concentration levels of thyroid hormones such as Thyroxin (T4) lead towards numerous organic disorders. Thyroid hyperfunction mainly occurs at cats, thyroid hypofunction occurs at all species.

Methode Measurement Range

The Eurolyser solo T4-Vet analysis is a homogenous enzyme immunoassay. By help of 8-anilino-1-Naphtalin acid sulfur (ANS) the bound T4 is seperated from its natural binding proteins. The so from blood seperated thyroxin competes with a thyroxin bound to a glucose-6-phosphat dehydrogenase to form a specific connector. GAPDH activity at 340nm is associated with the total thyroxin concentration in blood. If T4 is absent in the blood sample the enzyme activity is inhibited by binding of a specific antibody.
