HbA1c test

Haemoglobin A1c

About the parameter

HbA1c Single Test Thumbnail

Measuring HbA1c concentration in the blood facilitates the long-term monitoring of blood glucose levels from diabetics.

The glucose of HbA1c may bind itself to proteins – a process called glycation. Red blood cells contain glucose as well, enabling the blood sugar to bind to the blood cell’s haemoglobin – creating haemoglobin A1c, or HbA1c for short.

Even in healthy individuals a part of the haemoglobin is bound. For long-term monitoring and assessment of risks of long-term damage from diabetes, measuring the HbA1c value is crucial.

Overview

Method

This assay is a latex turbidimetric immunoassay to directly determine the HbA1c from whole blood or finger blood.

Measurement range

NGSP: 4.0 – 14.0 % (LOT-depending)
IFCC: 20 – 130 mmol/mol (LOT-depending)

eAG (estimated average glucose, LOT-depending)
Unit1: 69 – 359 mg/dl
Unit2: 3.8 – 19.8 mmol/l

Test duration

This assay takes approximately 7.5 minutes

Evaluation

Assay evaluation

Find the evaluation study for the Eurolyser HbA1c assay here: Evaluation Eurolyser HbA1c

Please note: depending on the time of the market launch of an assay, the respective assay evaluation was carried out using either a Eurolyser smart instrument or a Eurolyser CUBE instrument.

Since the measurement method is the same in both instruments (their photometric units are identical in construction), as was proved in this comparison study, all testkit evaluations provided on this website are valid for either instrument!
