T4 Test
Thyroxin
About the parameter
Thyroxin (T4) is formed in thyroid and released into the bloodstream, passing a complex regulating mechanism. Thyroxin is bound to several carrier proteins such as albumin, pre-albumin and other specific binding proteins. Thyroid diseases with abnormal hormone concentrations mainly effect older animals.
Increased – or decreased, respectively – concentration levels of thyroid hormones such as Thyroxin (T4) lead towards numerous organic disorders. Thyroid hyperfunction effect mainly cats, whereas thyroid hypofunction affects all species.
Overview
Sample material
20 µl of Li-hep plasma, EDTA plasma or serum.
Method / Measurement range
The Eurolyser solo T4 VET analysis is a homogenous enzyme immunoassay. By help of 8-anilino-1-naphtalene acid sulfur (ANS) the bound T4 is seperated from its natural binding proteins. The thyroxin seperated from blood competes with a thyroxin bound to a glucose-6-phosphat dehydrogenase to form a specific connector. GAPDH activity at 340 nm is associated with the total thyroxin concentration in blood. If T4 is absent in the blood sample the enzyme activity is inhibited by binding of a specific antibody.
Measurement range
0 – 20 µg/dl (0 – 260 nmol/l)
Test duration
This Test takes approx. 6 minutes.
